Hello, cookie enthusiasts! Are you ready to embark on a sweet journey with Cinnamon Swirl Cookies? These golden cinnamon sugar swirl delights are the perfect blend of buttery softness and warm, spiced sweetness. Whether you’re a cinnamon lover or simply in the mood for a treat that screams comfort, these cookies are a must-try.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • Granulated sugar for sprinkling

Optional Substitutions:

  • For a vegan version, use plant-based butter and a flaxseed egg substitute.
  • Swap gluten-free all-purpose flour for the standard variety to make it gluten-free.

Instructions

Step 1: In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

Step 2: In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.

Step 3: Gradually incorporate the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms.

Step 4: Roll the dough into a rectangle (about 1/4 inch thick) between two sheets of parchment paper.

Step 5: Combine brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the dough, leaving a slight border around the edges.

Step 6: Starting from one edge, roll the dough tightly into a log. Wrap it in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

Step 7: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 8: Slice the chilled dough into 1/4-inch-thick cookies and arrange them on the baking sheet.

Step 9: Lightly brush the tops with milk and sprinkle granulated sugar for added crunch.

Step 10: Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden. Cool on a wire rack before serving.

Notes

  • Chill the dough thoroughly to prevent it from spreading during baking.
  • Use freshly ground cinnamon for the best aroma and flavor.
  • For an extra crisp texture, bake for an additional 1-2 minutes.
