Description

This cheesy hamburger potato casserole is a hearty, family-friendly comfort food made with layers of seasoned ground beef, creamy sauce, sliced potatoes, and melted cheese—perfect for busy weeknights or cozy weekend dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 3 cups thinly sliced potatoes
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika (optional)
  • Non-stick cooking spray or butter for greasing

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef and onions until meat is browned and onions are soft. Drain excess fat.
  3. In a bowl, mix cream of mushroom soup, milk, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and paprika.
  4. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish. Top with half the ground beef, then half the soup mixture, and a layer of cheese.
  5. Repeat layers with remaining ingredients. Finish with a generous layer of shredded cheese on top.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 15-20 minutes until potatoes are tender and top is golden brown.
  7. Let rest for 5–10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Use Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes for best results.
  • Add a pinch of red pepper flakes for a little kick.
  • Make ahead and refrigerate for up to 24 hours before baking.
  • Serve with a side salad or steamed vegetables for a complete meal.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
