Tater Tot Breakfast Bowl Recipe – Easy and Hearty Morning Meal

Description

Welcome, food enthusiasts! If you’re looking for a hearty and comforting breakfast that’s both satisfying and delicious, then you’ve come to the right place. Today, we’ll be exploring the recipe for the ultimate Tater Tot Breakfast Bowl. This dish is a fusion of classic breakfast flavors like crispy tater tots, savory sausage gravy, and perfectly cooked eggs, making it an irresistible option for any brunch or breakfast gathering.

Ingredients

Scale

  • 1 pound breakfast sausage: Feel free to use turkey sausage for a lighter option.
  • 2 tablespoons butter: Can be substituted with olive oil for a healthier twist.
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour: If gluten-free, use almond or oat flour.
  • 2 cups milk: Substitute with dairy-free options like almond or oat milk.
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 cups frozen tater tots: Sweet potato tots work well too.
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese: Opt for dairy-free cheese if needed.
  • Chopped fresh chives for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Cook the sausage: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the breakfast sausage until browned and fully cooked. Once done, remove from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Prepare the gravy: Using the same skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add 1/4 cup flour and whisk until smooth.
  4. Make the sauce: Slowly pour in 2 cups of milk, whisking constantly until the mixture thickens and starts to simmer. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Combine: Return the sausage to the skillet, stirring until well combined.
  6. Bake the tots: Spread the frozen tater tots in a single layer on a baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Fry the eggs: While the tots bake, fry the eggs to your desired doneness.
  8. Assemble the bowls: Divide the crispy tater tots among four serving bowls. Top each with a generous portion of sausage gravy, a fried egg, and a handful of shredded cheddar cheese.
  9. Garnish and serve: Sprinkle with chopped chives for an added burst of flavor and serve hot.

Notes

  1. Use high-quality sausage: For a richer, more savory flavor, opt for premium breakfast sausage.
  2. Fresh herbs add flavor: If you have fresh parsley or thyme on hand, they make excellent additions to the gravy.
  3. Make it spicy: Add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the gravy for a little kick.
  4. Get creative with cheese: Swap out cheddar for pepper jack or mozzarella for a different flavor profile.
