Description

This Slow Cooker Hamburger Hash is a hearty, layered casserole-style dish made with seasoned ground beef, diced potatoes, sweet corn, and topped with melty cheese. It’s slow-cooked to perfection and ideal for cozy family dinners or meal prepping.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 4 medium potatoes, peeled and diced evenly
  • 1½ cups sweet corn, drained
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • ½ cup milk or heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme or oregano
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese
  • Fresh parsley, finely chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef with chopped onion. Add garlic, paprika, salt, pepper, and herbs. Stir and cook thoroughly, then drain any excess grease.
  2. Lightly grease the inside of the slow cooker.
  3. Layer half of the diced potatoes at the bottom of the cooker.
  4. Spoon half of the beef mixture over the potatoes and sprinkle with half of the corn.
  5. Repeat with the remaining potatoes, beef, and corn, keeping layers distinct.
  6. Pour the beef broth and milk evenly over the layers. Do not stir.
  7. Cover and cook on LOW for 6–7 hours or HIGH for 3–4 hours, until potatoes are tender.
  8. Once cooked, sprinkle the shredded cheese over the top. Cover and cook another 15–20 minutes until the cheese melts.
  9. Let it rest for 5–10 minutes. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve.

Notes

  • Dice potatoes evenly for uniform cooking.
  • Do not stir to preserve the layered look.
  • Yukon Gold potatoes provide the best texture.
  • Resting the dish before serving helps it hold shape when sliced.
