Description
This Slow Cooker Hamburger Hash is a hearty, layered casserole-style dish made with seasoned ground beef, diced potatoes, sweet corn, and topped with melty cheese. It’s slow-cooked to perfection and ideal for cozy family dinners or meal prepping.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef
- 4 medium potatoes, peeled and diced evenly
- 1½ cups sweet corn, drained
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup beef broth
- ½ cup milk or heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon dried thyme or oregano
- 1½–2 cups shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese
- Fresh parsley, finely chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef with chopped onion. Add garlic, paprika, salt, pepper, and herbs. Stir and cook thoroughly, then drain any excess grease.
- Lightly grease the inside of the slow cooker.
- Layer half of the diced potatoes at the bottom of the cooker.
- Spoon half of the beef mixture over the potatoes and sprinkle with half of the corn.
- Repeat with the remaining potatoes, beef, and corn, keeping layers distinct.
- Pour the beef broth and milk evenly over the layers. Do not stir.
- Cover and cook on LOW for 6–7 hours or HIGH for 3–4 hours, until potatoes are tender.
- Once cooked, sprinkle the shredded cheese over the top. Cover and cook another 15–20 minutes until the cheese melts.
- Let it rest for 5–10 minutes. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve.
Notes
- Dice potatoes evenly for uniform cooking.
- Do not stir to preserve the layered look.
- Yukon Gold potatoes provide the best texture.
- Resting the dish before serving helps it hold shape when sliced.
