Sausage Wontons Recipe: Crispy, Cheesy Party Appetizers

Description

Welcome, food enthusiasts! Today, we’re diving into a delightful recipe that’s perfect for parties, family gatherings, or just when you crave a delicious snack. Introducing Sausage Wontons, a crispy, cheesy, and flavor-packed treat that’s guaranteed to be a hit. Whether you’re a fan of traditional appetizers or looking for a twist on classic wontons, these savory bites will not disappoint. Let’s get started on making this crowd-pleaser!

Ingredients

Scale

  • 1 pound ground sausage, cooked and crumbled
  • 1 teaspoon seasoned salt
  • 1 ½ cups cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 ½ cups Monterey jack cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup buttermilk Ranch Dressing
  • ½ cup chopped green pepper
  • 12 wonton wrappers

Optional Substitutions:

  • For a lighter option, swap pork sausage for chicken or turkey sausage.
  • For a vegetarian twist, use seasoned plant-based crumbles.
  • For a dairy-free option, substitute regular cheese with dairy-free cheddar and jack cheese.

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat and Prepare

Start by lightly greasing a 12-cup muffin tin. Press a single wonton wrapper into each muffin cup and bake at 350°F (180°C) for 5 minutes until the wrappers turn golden brown. Once done, remove from the oven and let them cool on a cookie sheet.

Step 2: Prepare the Filling

In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground sausage with the seasoned salt until it’s cooked through. Drain any excess grease and transfer the sausage to a large mixing bowl.

Step 3: Mix in the Ingredients

Add the cheddar cheese, Monterey jack cheese, buttermilk Ranch Dressing, and chopped green peppers to the sausage mixture. Using a rubber spatula, combine all the ingredients thoroughly until well mixed.

Step 4: Fill the Wontons

Spoon a generous amount of the filling into each of the pre-baked wonton cups. Ensure each wonton is evenly filled for consistent flavor in every bite.

Step 5: Bake Until Bubbly

Place the filled wontons back on the cookie sheet and bake at 350°F (180°C) for another 5 minutes, or until the filling is bubbly and the cheese is melted. Serve hot for the best flavor experience!

Notes

  • Use Fresh Ingredients: For the best flavor, opt for freshly grated cheese and high-quality sausage.
  • Customize the Spiciness: Add a pinch of crushed red pepper or a diced jalapeno to the filling for an extra kick.
  • Prevent Sogginess: Pre-baking the wonton wrappers ensures they stay crispy and don’t get soggy after adding the filling.
