- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda – Helps the bars rise and achieve the perfect texture.
- 1/2 teaspoon salt – Balances the sweetness of the chocolate and caramel.
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted – The base fat for the cookie, providing moisture and richness.
- 1 cup brown sugar – Adds a deep, molasses-like flavor and chewiness to the bars.
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar – Balances the flavor and creates a crisp top.
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract – Enhances the overall flavor profile with a warm, rich aroma.
- 2 large eggs – Helps bind the ingredients and adds structure.
- 2 cups chocolate chips – Semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips for that classic cookie flavor.
Salted Caramel Ingredients:
- 1 cup sugar – The base for the caramel sauce.
- 6 tablespoons salted butter, at room temperature, cut into pieces – Adds richness and creaminess to the caramel.
- 1/2 cup heavy cream, at room temperature – Creates a smooth and silky caramel.

Instructions
Step 1: Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Prepare a 9×13 inch baking pan by lining it with parchment paper, leaving a slight overhang on the sides for easy removal.
Step 2: Prepare the Cookie Dough
In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
In a separate large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar, mixing until smooth. Stir in the vanilla extract and eggs, one at a time, ensuring each egg is fully incorporated before adding the next. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
Finally, fold in the chocolate chips.
Step 3: Bake the Cookie Base
Press the cookie dough evenly into your prepared baking pan. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the center is set. Once baked, remove the pan from the oven and allow the cookie base to cool slightly before adding the caramel layer.
Step 4: Prepare the Salted Caramel
While the cookie base is cooling, it’s time to make the salted caramel. In a medium saucepan, melt 1 cup of sugar over medium heat, stirring constantly to avoid burning. As the sugar melts, it will turn into a golden amber color. Once fully melted, add the butter and continue to stir until fully combined. Slowly drizzle in the heavy cream, stirring continuously. Allow the caramel to boil for 1 minute, then remove it from heat. Stir in sea salt, and let the caramel cool for a few minutes.
Step 5: Assemble the Bars
Once the cookie base has cooled slightly and the caramel is warm (not hot), pour the salted caramel over the cookie base, spreading it evenly. Allow the bars to cool completely before slicing them into squares.
