Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich Recipe – Quick Dinner Ideas

Description

Welcome to this exciting Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich recipe! Whether you’re a seasoned cheesesteak lover or trying this Philly classic for the first time, you’re in for a treat. This simple, delicious sandwich combines tender ribeye steak with sautéed bell peppers, onions, and melted provolone cheese, all packed into a warm, buttery hoagie roll. If you love quick, comforting meals, this is definitely a must-try!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ribeye steak, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 yellow bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 4 hoagie rolls
  • 6 slices provolone cheese
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Optional substitutions: You can swap the ribeye steak for other cuts like sirloin or flank steak. For a dairy-free version, substitute the provolone with a vegan cheese alternative.

Instructions

Step 1: Sauté the Veggies

Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Add the sliced bell peppers and onion, cooking until they’re softened and lightly caramelized, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the veggies from the skillet and set them aside.

Step 2: Cook the Steak

In the same skillet, add the thinly sliced ribeye steak. Cook for 3-5 minutes, breaking it apart as it cooks. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Step 3: Combine Steak and Veggies

Return the cooked bell peppers and onions to the skillet with the steak. Mix them together and lower the heat to medium. Place slices of provolone cheese on top and allow them to melt into the mixture.

Step 4: Toast the Rolls

While the cheese melts, heat a separate skillet and lightly toast the hoagie rolls with butter until golden brown.

Step 5: Assemble and Serve

Once everything is ready, stuff the toasted hoagie rolls with the cheesy steak and veggie mixture. Serve warm and enjoy your homemade Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich!

Notes

  • For the juiciest Philly Cheesesteak, make sure to use ribeye steak – its marbling adds flavor and tenderness.
  • Slice your veggies thinly to ensure they cook quickly and evenly.
  • If you don’t have provolone, other cheeses like mozzarella or American cheese can be used.
  • Don’t overcrowd the pan when cooking the steak – cook it in batches if necessary.
