Soft, gooey, and buttery Heart Shaped Chocolate Chip Cookies made in just 30 minutes. Perfect for Valentine’s Day, gifting, or a sweet homemade treat.
Ingredients
Scale
- ¾ cup unsalted butter, softened
- ¾ cup brown sugar, packed
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg, room temperature
- 1½ teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1¾ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon fine sea salt
- 1 cup chocolate chunks or chips (milk or semi-sweet)
- ¼ cup Valentine sprinkles or sugar hearts (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Cream the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy (about 2 minutes).
- Add the egg and vanilla extract and beat until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
- Stir in the chocolate chunks or chips, reserving a few for topping.
- Chill the dough for 30 minutes to help the cookies hold their shape.
- Scoop out dough, roll into balls, flatten slightly, then pinch the bottom and indent the top to form heart shapes.
- Place cookies on the prepared baking sheet and press in extra chocolate and sprinkles if using.
- Bake for 10–12 minutes, until edges are set and centers are soft.
- Cool on the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- Chill the dough to prevent cookies from spreading too much.
- Underbake by 1 minute for extra gooey centers.
- Gently reshape cookies with a spatula after baking for crisper heart shapes.
- Use a flax egg and dairy-free butter/chocolate for a vegan version.
- Freeze unbaked shaped dough for up to 2 months.
