- 1 lb ground beef (80% lean)
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp onion powder
- 1 tbsp oil (canola or vegetable)
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 2 cups beef broth (low-sodium if preferred)
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tbsp flour (optional, for thickening)
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix gently until just combined, then form into two large or four medium patties.
- Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add patties and cook 5–6 minutes per side until browned and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add sliced onions. Cook for about 5 minutes, stirring frequently, until caramelized and golden.
- Pour in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, scraping the pan to release browned bits. Bring to a gentle simmer.
- If you prefer thicker gravy, whisk flour with a few tablespoons of water to make a slurry. Stir into the skillet and cook 2–3 minutes until the gravy thickens.
- Return the cooked patties to the skillet and spoon gravy over the top. Simmer another 2–3 minutes to combine flavors.
- Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot over mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles.
Notes
- Use 80/20 ground beef for juicy, flavorful patties.
- Do not press down on patties while cooking—this releases juices and dries them out.
- Caramelize onions slowly over medium heat for the best flavor.
- To make gluten-free, use cornstarch or gluten-free flour for thickening.
- Double the gravy if serving with mashed potatoes—it’s that good!
