    • ¼ cup sausage drippings (or add butter if needed)
    • ¼ cup flour
    • ½ teaspoon salt (or to taste)
    • ¼ teaspoon pepper (or to taste)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Sawmill Gravy

  1. In a cast-iron skillet, cook the breakfast sausage over medium heat until well done.
  2. Remove the sausage and leave ¼ cup of the drippings in the pan (add butter if needed).
  3. To the reserved drippings, add flour and stir constantly over medium heat for about 5-10 minutes until the mixture starts to turn golden.
  4. Slowly add milk while continuing to stir until the gravy thickens to your desired consistency.
  5. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

  1. While the gravy is cooking, split and lightly toast the English muffins until golden and crisp.
