Description
These soft and chewy Christmas sugar cookies are rolled in festive red and green sanding sugar and baked without any chilling time. Perfect for holiday gifting, cookie swaps, or cozy baking days with family.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 cups (360g) all-purpose flour
- ½ tsp cornstarch
- 1 tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, room temperature
- 1 ½ cups (297g) granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ⅛ tsp almond extract
- Red and green sanding sugar
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350ºF (177ºC). In a small bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar for 1 minute until light and fluffy.
- Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract. Beat again until fully combined.
- Gradually mix in the dry ingredients using a low speed or spatula until a soft dough forms.
- Place red and green sanding sugar in separate shallow bowls.
- Use a cookie scoop to form dough balls. Roll each ball in the colored sugar until fully coated.
- Place the dough balls 2 inches apart on a silicone-lined or parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Bake for 12–14 minutes or until the edges are just set.
- Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- Dough balls in the photos were 3 heaping tablespoons for large cookies.
- For smaller cookies, reduce the baking time to avoid overbaking.
- No chilling required — bake immediately after mixing.
- Use sanding sugar, not regular sugar, for the best festive finish.
- Cookies can be frozen baked or unbaked (as dough balls).
