Description

Hello, festive bakers! Are you ready to fill your home with the sweet aroma of Christmas cheer? Today, we’re diving into a recipe for Christmas Gooey Butter Cookies—a soft, gooey delight perfect for holiday gatherings or a cozy night in. These cookies are festive, easy to make, and sure to bring smiles to your loved ones.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box yellow cake mix
  • 1 (8 oz) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar (for dusting)
  • 1/4 cup red and green sprinkles (optional for decoration)

Feel free to substitute gluten-free cake mix for a gluten-free version or dairy-free cream cheese for a vegan option.

Instructions

Step1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step2: In a large bowl, mix the cake mix, cream cheese, butter, egg, and vanilla extract. Stir until the dough is smooth and slightly sticky.

Step3: Roll tablespoon-sized portions of dough into balls and coat each with powdered sugar.

Step4: Place the dough balls on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

Step5: Sprinkle red and green sprinkles over the tops for a festive look (optional).

Step6: Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are slightly golden while the centers remain soft.

Step7: Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Keep the dough chilled: If the dough becomes too sticky, refrigerate it for 10–15 minutes before rolling.
  • Avoid overbaking: The cookies should have a gooey center, so watch closely after the 10-minute mark.
  • Experiment with colors: Swap red and green sprinkles for blue and white to create a winter wonderland theme.
