Description

A cheesy tater tot casserole made with savory ground beef, tomato cream sauce, melty cheese, and crispy golden tots. Quick, comforting, and family-friendly.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup tomato sauce or marinara
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or blend)
  • 1 package frozen tater tots
  • Chopped green onions or parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and sauté until soft and translucent, about 3–5 minutes.
  2. Add minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds. Add the ground beef and cook until browned and fully cooked through.
  3. Stir in tomato sauce, heavy cream, paprika, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5–8 minutes until thickened.
  4. Transfer the beef mixture to a lightly greased baking dish. Sprinkle half the shredded cheese on top.
  5. Arrange frozen tater tots in a single layer over the cheese. Sprinkle remaining cheese evenly on top.
  6. Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 30–35 minutes, or until tater tots are crispy and cheese is bubbling.
  7. Garnish with chopped green onions or parsley before serving.

Notes

  • For a healthier version, use ground turkey and light cheese.
  • Broil the casserole for 2–3 minutes at the end for extra crispiness.
  • Leftovers store well in the fridge or freezer.
  • Add vegetables like peas, corn, or spinach for more nutrition.
  • To make ahead, assemble and refrigerate up to 24 hours before baking.
