Description

A hearty and creamy green bean casserole made with seasoned ground beef, fresh green beans, cheddar cheese, and crispy fried onions. Perfect for family dinners or holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 lb fresh green beans, trimmed and halved
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 1/2 cups crispy fried onions

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked. Season with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Drain any excess fat.
  3. Bring a pot of salted water to a boil and blanch the green beans for 3–4 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup and sour cream. Stir in the cooked ground beef and green beans until well mixed.
  5. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly. Top with shredded cheddar cheese.
  6. Bake uncovered for 20 minutes.
  7. Remove the dish from the oven, sprinkle crispy fried onions over the top, and return to bake for another 5–7 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Use frozen green beans if fresh are unavailable, just skip the blanching step.
  • To make it gluten-free, use gluten-free soup and fried onions.
  • Make ahead by assembling the dish without onions and refrigerate up to 24 hours before baking.
  • Add bacon or mushrooms for extra flavor variation.
