Description
Brazilian Mounjaro – Best Natural Detox — a stunning color-changing butterfly pea flower drink perfect for a healthy breakfast ritual and daily wellness routine. Makes 2 servings in 14 minutes with just 6 simple ingredients.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 tablespoons dried butterfly pea flowers
- 500 ml (2 cups) water
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar (with the mother)
- Juice of 1 lemon (approximately 2 tablespoons)
- 1 teaspoon honey (optional)
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, sliced (optional)
Instructions
- Boil 500 ml of water in a saucepan. If using ginger, add it to the water at this stage.
- Remove from heat and add the butterfly pea flowers. Let steep for 10 minutes.
- Strain the flowers (optional) for a clearer drink.
- Add lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, and honey (if using) to the tea.
- Stir well and observe the color change from blue to purple.
- Serve immediately as a hot drink or pour over ice for a chilled version.
Notes
- Refrigerator Storage: Transfer the fully prepared tonic (without ice) into an airtight glass jar or bottle and refrigerate for up to 3 days. The color may deepen slightly over time as the butterfly pea flower pigments continue to develop, but the flavor remains stable. Always give the jar a gentle shake before pouring, as natural sediment from the ginger and lemon pulp may settle at the bottom.
- Freezer Storage: Pour individual 250 ml portions into BPA-free silicone freezer bags or small freezer-safe glass containers, leaving about 1 cm of headspace for expansion. Freeze flat for easy stacking and store for up to 2 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator for 8–10 hours. Note: omit the apple cider vinegar before freezing and stir it in fresh after thawing for the best probiotic benefit.
- Oven Reheat (Warm Tonic): This method works well for reheating larger batches. Pour the chilled tonic into an oven-safe ceramic pot, cover with a lid or foil, and warm at 150°F (65°C) for 10 minutes. Do not exceed 170°F (77°C), as high heat can degrade the delicate anthocyanin pigments in the butterfly pea flowers and diminish the vinegar’s beneficial cultures. Stir gently before serving.
- Microwave Reheat: Pour one serving (250 ml) into a microwave-safe glass mug. Heat on medium power (50%) in 30-second intervals, stirring between each burst, for a total of 1 minute 30 seconds. This gentle approach prevents hot spots that could destroy the live cultures in the apple cider vinegar. The tonic should be warm to the touch but not steaming or boiling.
- Stovetop Reheat (Recommended): Pour the refrigerated tonic into a small saucepan over low heat and warm gently for 3–4 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat as soon as you see the first wisps of steam rising from the surface—well before a simmer. This is the gentlest reheating method and best preserves both the vibrant blue-purple color and the integrity of the apple cider vinegar with the mother.
