Let’s dive into how to make this delicious, easy-to-make dish that’s sure to impress.

Ingredients

Scale

  • 1 pound ground pork – A key ingredient for authentic flavor.
  • 1 cup chicken broth – Adds moisture and depth to the sauce.
  • ½ cup soy sauce – Use low-sodium soy sauce for a less salty dish.
  • ¼ cup hoisin sauce – Adds sweetness and richness.
  • 3 tablespoons peanut butter – Creates a creamy texture.
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar – Provides a tangy balance.
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil – For that authentic nutty aroma.
  • 1 tablespoon grated ginger – Fresh ginger works best for bold flavor.
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced – Garlic adds a fragrant depth.
  • 1 teaspoon chili oil (or to taste) – Adjust according to your spice preference.
  • ¼ teaspoon white pepper – Adds a subtle heat.
  • 8 ounces dried Chinese noodles (or spaghetti) – Noodles soak up all the delicious sauce.
  • ¼ cup chopped peanuts – For a crunchy topping.
  • 3 green onions, sliced – For garnish.
  • Fresh cilantro – Optional, for a fresh, herby garnish.

Substitutions: For a vegetarian option, substitute the ground pork with crumbled tofu. For a gluten-free version, use rice noodles and tamari instead of soy sauce.

Instructions

Step 1: Brown the Pork

In a large skillet, cook the ground pork over medium heat until fully browned. Drain any excess fat before transferring the pork to your slow cooker.

Step 2: Prepare the Sauce

In the slow cooker, combine the chicken broth, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, peanut butter, rice vinegar, sesame oil, grated ginger, minced garlic, chili oil, and white pepper. Stir the mixture to ensure all the ingredients are well incorporated.

Step 3: Slow Cook to Perfection

Cover the slow cooker and set it to low. Cook for 4 to 6 hours, allowing the flavors to meld together beautifully.

Step 4: Cook the Noodles

About 15 minutes before the end of the slow cooker time, prepare your noodles according to the package instructions. Once cooked, drain and set them aside.

Step 5: Combine and Serve

Mix the cooked noodles into the slow cooker, ensuring they’re thoroughly coated with the sauce. Serve immediately, garnished with chopped peanuts, sliced green onions, and fresh cilantro.

Notes

  • Use fresh ginger: Fresh ginger gives a sharper, more authentic flavor compared to powdered ginger.
  • Adjust the spice level: If you’re sensitive to spice, reduce the amount of chili oil, or opt for a milder chili paste.
  • Don’t overcook the noodles: Add the noodles just before serving to keep them from getting mushy.
