Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup light brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 large apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for apples)
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for apples)
Glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2–3 tablespoons milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5-inch loaf pan to ensure the bread doesn’t stick.
- Mix the dry ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, salt, baking powder, and ground cinnamon. Set aside.
- Prepare the wet ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, melted butter, milk, and vanilla extract. Once smooth, pour this wet mixture into the bowl of dry ingredients. Stir until just combined; overmixing can make the bread tough.
- Toss the apples: In a small bowl, toss the chopped apples with 1/4 cup granulated sugar and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon. This will add a sweet, spiced flavor to the apples.
- Assemble the bread: Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Layer with half of the apple mixture, then pour the remaining batter over the apples. Finally, top with the rest of the apple mixture, gently pressing them into the batter.
- Bake: Place the loaf in the preheated oven and bake for 50-60 minutes. You’ll know it’s done when a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool and glaze: Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack. While the bread cools, prepare the glaze by whisking together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled bread.

- Don’t overmix the batter! This is crucial to achieving a soft, tender crumb. Stir the wet and dry ingredients together just until they are combined.
- Let the bread cool completely before adding the glaze. If the bread is too warm, the glaze will melt and not create that perfect drizzle effect.
- Customize your apples: Choose a tart variety like Granny Smith for a more tangy bite, or go with a sweeter apple like Honeycrisp for a balanced flavor.
