Description

These Cajun Chicken Sloppy Joes are a spicy, cheesy twist on the classic sandwich, made with seasoned ground chicken, melty cheddar, and served on toasted brioche buns. A quick and flavorful 30-minute meal perfect for weeknights or game day.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground chicken
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 green bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Cajun seasoning
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp hot sauce (optional)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese
  • 4 brioche burger buns, toasted

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and green bell pepper. Sauté for 4–5 minutes until softened.
  2. Add minced garlic and stir for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  3. Add ground chicken and break it apart with a spoon. Cook until browned and fully cooked, about 7–8 minutes.
  4. Reduce heat to low. Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, Worcestershire sauce, and hot sauce (if using).
  5. Let the mixture simmer for 8–10 minutes until thickened.
  6. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Toast brioche buns. Spoon the chicken mixture onto each bottom bun, top with cheddar cheese, and close with the top bun.
  8. Serve immediately while warm and melty.

Notes

  • To make it spicier, add more hot sauce or a pinch of cayenne pepper.
  • Swap ground chicken for turkey or a plant-based alternative.
  • Use gluten-free buns for a gluten-free version.
  • Store leftover filling in the fridge for up to 3 days or freeze for 2 months.
